What a Shower!

During the course of last winter, we undertook some modifications below decks on Pilgrim. These were intended to improve our guest facilities, create a more Covid secure environment and provide for some self-contained sleeping accommodation.

Well, what we did has been a big hit with our guests. We now have three ‘heads’ on board which provide toilet and hot shower facilities. Two new head compartments forward provide facilities for guests in the forepeak and in the main saloon. These two areas can now be separated and provide self-contained ensuite accommodation. We also have a head aft which provides toilet and shower facilities for the crew.

Shower ShowerOur large water tanks and twin calorifier/immersion heaters provide lots of hot water and guests benefit from plentiful hot showers. The WC’s are all electric and the compartments have multiple LED lighting arrangements for regular use and for when night vision needs to be maintained.

Pilgrim is configured to be traditional above decks and contemporary below decks and our new large deck hatch blends perfectly into both settings. It provides much improved ventilation and increases the amount of daylight in the main saloon.

These new facilities have come into their own this season and the guest feedback has been very positive. If you want to sail on a heritage sailing vessel make sure you pick one with hot showers and then you can soak up the history around you and the exhilarating sailing! Goodness knows what the crew would have made of it all in 1895 when she was launched.
