Torbay Afternoon Half Day Sail
Our Torbay Afternoon Half Day Sail is a great introduction to heritage vessels and to the English Riviera. You’ll be able to enjoy an afternoon out in the fresh air in the bay – it’s stunning. Your cruise provides a ‘real taster’ of traditional sailing in the delightfully sheltered waters of Torbay.
Sailing on Pilgrim is a unique and exhilarating experience
Not only will you have a superb time sailing our 125 year old Brixham trawler, but you will see how Victorian fishermen handled these heavy and powerful vessels. You will be able to assist the crew to sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner yet benefit from the modern guest facilities we have on board.
Your sailing will start and end in the historic fishing port of Brixham at the southern end of Torbay. Brixham is often referred to as the ‘mother of trawling’ as it was at the heart of the development of the sailing trawler and is still England’s most productive fishing port to this day. It is bustling now, as it was then, and the harbour is still characterised by quaint colourful fishermen’s cottages and scores of fishing boats.
What will we see?
As soon as your Torbay Afternoon Half Day Sail gets underway, you will pass the Brixham breakwater lighthouse and be able to savour the delights of the coastline with all the resorts spread out around you. It’s known as the English Riviera with good reason. You will see the local coves together with Broadsands and Goodrington beaches sweeping round to Paignton Pier and with vistas across to Torquay. The climate is mild, the sunshine record is coveted and the scenery is breathtaking. Whether we just stay in the bay or go a bit further out, you will be able to appreciate the scenery, wildlife and the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. There’s nothing quite like it!
