Scillies Sailing Holiday

Our ever popular Scillies Sailing Holiday is to and from Falmouth in Cornwall. From there we’ll aim to make the passage westward around the Lizard Peninsula and out to the Isles of Scilly. These spectacular islands are something really special. The stunning scenery and amazing marine wildlife are a real treat.  Usually we have a picnic or beach barbeque ashore during the trip. The surroundings are just splendid as are the sunrises and sunsets over the sea. This really is a ‘bucket list’ destination and it one of our most popular trips so book early!

Sailing on Pilgrim – An Experience of a Lifetime

Sailing on Pilgrim is a real life adventure! You can learn how the very first trawlermen used to handle these heavy and powerful vessels. If you’d like to, you will be able to work alongside the crew to sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner, or you can relax and enjoy the sail. Either way, you’ll enjoy the modern guest facilities we have on board.

Throughout your Scillies Sailing Holiday you will be able to savour the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. By the time Pilgrim arrives back in Falmouth over a week later, you will have friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. These sailings to the Scillies are always our most popular cruises of the season so don’t delay if you want to go.

Take a look at Pilgrim in full sail here. You can find out more about life on board Pilgrim by reading our SAILING GUIDE.  This tells you all the things you’ll need to know to make the best of your time onboard. If you would like to read reviews of guest experiences on Pilgrim check them out here.

Accommodation is arranged in two shared sleeping areas, one of six berths and the other of four berths. Our bunks are wide and comfortable! There’s very little storage onboard though so pack light and into a soft holdall. For more room or even your own ‘en-suite facilities’ please enquire by email. These are offered subject to availability on certain sailings by payment of a supplement.  Contact

Prices quoted are per single berth to include all meals as described.

Where will we go

This all depends on the wind, the weather and the tide! We plan our Scillies Sailing Holiday with a little extra time as getting over to the Isles can sometimes be tricky. This means we almost always get across, but please be aware that sometime the weather does make this impossible. We will plan to use our favourite anchorages between St Agnes and Gugh and between Treso and Bryher. These provide easy access to the adjacent islands for their pristine beaches and for adventures ashore. Hopefully we’ll also get ashore on St Mary’s and St Martins but everything we do will be dependent on weather and tides. Whatever the weather, the Cornish Coast and Isles of Scilly surroundings are just stunning and the sailing will be exhilarating!

Boarding & briefing

Guests are asked to embark at 12noon. The skipper and crew will then run through the plans for the trip, get to understand guest preferences and give the essential safety briefing. Information on finding Pilgrim and on parking and transportation arrangements are in the Joining Instructions. You will receive an SMS message prior to your departure day with the gate code for the marina in Falmouth.

Plan for the Trip

This all depends on the wind, the weather and the tide. We will plan to make the passage to the islands as soon as is practical to give plenty of time to explore. We will also keep a close eye on the weather to time our return as best we can. During the crossing we will pass close to Wolf Rock Lighthouse and pods of dolphins often accompany us on our way. In the Scillies all anchorages involve beach landings from our inflatable dinghy.

Hands-on or sit back and relax

Our past guests frequently tell us that getting involved in helping to sail Pilgrim was of the day, so we encourage everyone to help the crew sail the boat. Don’t worry! They’ll show you the ropes and support you. Alternatively, if you just want to relax and enjoy the sailing and the scenery, you can sit back and leave it to others. Lifejackets are provided for all on board and are compulsory unless the skipper advises otherwise.

Food and beverages

You will start the trip with a brew and lunchtime snack followed by afternoon tea and a 2 course dinner in the evening. Each day we will serve breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Meals may vary or be missed when shore trips are organised. The menu will be dictated by the fresh ingredients we can source and the weather conditions and our situation from day-to-day. On the last morning we will just serve breakfast.

What to wear and bring

Even in summer it can still be cool out at sea so we suggest you bring warm layers and that all important sun hat. You should also come prepared with wet weather gear. Don’t forget your phone or camera to capture the stunning scenery and amazing wildlife. It is important to bring sun screen to protect yourself and if you think you might need it – consider a travel sickness remedy before you set off each day- just in case.

Something to remember your heritage sailing experience

We have a range of branded clothing and other items in available in our online shop. Why not order before you leave home and it can be available for you to collect on the boat. We love to see guests photos and share them on our social media. We’ll provide you with a QR code to upload your photos so we know we have your permission to use them.
