May Midweek Sailing Adventure
You will board Pilgrim in the historic fishing port of Brixham for our May Midweek Sailing Adventure. It’s scheduled so you can avoid weekend traffic and take advantage of off peak travel to Devon. We will be exploring the coastline, bays and estuaries of South Devon. You will get the chance to soak up the stunning scenery and experience exhilarating sailing on our beloved and fully restored heritage sailing trawler. Pilgrim is a proud member of the UK National Historic Fleet and in 2022 it will be 127 years since she was launched from Upham’s Yard in Brixham right next to where she now berths.
Sailing on Pilgrim is a unique experience
Not only will you have a superb sailing short break, but you will see how Victorian fishermen handled these heavy and powerful vessels. You will be able to assist the crew to sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner yet benefit from the modern guest facilities we have on board.
Your May Midweek Sailing Adventure will start and end in Brixham at the southern end of Torbay. Brixham is often referred to as the ‘mother of trawling’ as it was at the heart of the development of the sailing trawler and is still England’s most productive fishing port to this day. It is bustling now, as it was then, and the harbour is still characterised by quaint colourful fishermen’s cottages and scores of fishing boats.
Where will we go?
This 3 day May Midweek Sailing AdventureDevon Weekend Sailing Adventure will likely include Torbay, Lyme Bay and Start Bay which surround the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The climate is typically mild, the sunshine record is coveted and the scenery is breathtaking. Torbay is referred to as the English Riviera with good reason, We will aim to visit historic Dartmouth or anchor in secluded coves and visit the beaches. Wherever we go, you will be able to appreciate the scenery, the wonderful wildlife and the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. That’s really special!
