Devon Traditional Sailing Holiday
Our Devon Traditional Sailing Holiday is an ideal way to sneak a late season holiday. We’ll be exploring the delightful coastline, bays and estuaries of South Devon. You will also get the chance to soak up the stunning scenery and experience exhilarating sailing on our beloved and fully restored heritage sailing trawler.
Sailing on Pilgrim is a unique experience
Not only will you have a great time sailing, but you will see how Victorian fishermen handled these heavy and powerful vessels. You will be able to assist the crew to sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner yet benefit from the modern guest facilities we have on board.
Your sailing will start and end in the historic fishing port of Brixham at the southern end of Torbay. Brixham is often referred to as the ‘mother of trawling’ as it was at the heart of the development of the sailing trawler and is still England’s most productive fishing port to this day. It is bustling now, as it was then, and the harbour is still characterised by quaint colourful fishermen’s cottages and scores of fishing boats.
Where will we go?
This 6 day, 5 night Devon Traditional Sailing Holiday will give us time to meander along the coastline and, if we go west, we might even nip into Cornwall as well. We will start with Torbay, Lyme Bay and Start Bay which surround the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We may visit picturesque Dartmouth or Salcombe and possible call into Plymouth. The local climate is typically mild, the sunshine record is coveted and the scenery is breathtaking. Wherever we go, you will be able to appreciate the scenery, the wonderful wildlife and the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. That’s really special!
Take a look at Pilgrim in full sail leaving Dartmouth here. You can find out more about life on board Pilgrim by reading our Sailing Guide. This tells you all the things you’ll need to know to make the best of your time onboard. If you would like to read reviews of guest experiences on Pilgrim check them out here.
