Dartmouth Sail Dip n Dine
Our Dartmouth Sail Dip n Dine is a wonderful way to enjoy a late summer’s day. Put the lockdown behind you and celebrate! This trip suits solos, couples, families and all ages* and it’s a great introduction to heritage vessels and to the amazing Dart estuary and the South Devon coastline. You can charter the whole boat or join other like-minded folks for an entertaining day out with a difference.
We will take you out from port of Dartmouth into the sheltered waters of Start Bay in Devon – it’s stunning. You can shake off all those weeks of lockdown and enjoy the amazing scenery, the marine wildlife and simply being out in the elements. Why sit on a crowded beach when you can have a unique sailing experience?
Sailing on Pilgrim is a unique and exhilarating experience
Not only will you have a superb day out sailing our historic Brixham trawler, but you will see how Victorian fishermen handled these heavy and powerful vessels. You will be able to watch the crew sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner.
Your sailing will start and end in the historic naval port of Dartmouth where the pretty River Dart completes it’s journey from Dartmoor to the sea. It was back in 1620 when the Mayflower set sail from Dartmouth and this year is the 400th Anniversary of that historic voyage. The waterfront is a beautiful architectural mix of historic buildings across the centuries and the Britannia Royal Naval College towers over the town. Dartmouth is sailing heaven!
Where will we go?
As soon as your Dartmouth Sail Dip n Dine gets underway, you will pass out through the ‘castles’ with Kingswear Castle on your port side and Dartmouth Castle on your starboard side. They guard the entrance to the harbour and the River Dart. As we sail out into Start Bay you should be able to see the Dartmouth Daymark (built in 1864) high on the hill and Start Point and its famous lighthouse (built in 1836) out in the distance. Sailing this coastline is delightful as it combines high cliffs with small coves and sandy beaches. The climate is mild, the sunshine record is coveted and the scenery is breathtaking. Whether we just stay in the bay or go a bit further out, you will be able to appreciate the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. There’s nothing quite like it!
