Coronation Jubilee Sailing Celebration
Forget spam sandwiches and street parties, our Coronation Jubilee Sailing Celebration is something else. We’ll celebrate the start of summer and your Jubilee celebrations by setting sail from the historic port of Brixham. Plans are still being formulated all over the country and in the South West for this very special Royal celebration. We have with five days to play with so we can enjoy a relaxed and very different Jubilee context from the deck of Pilgrim. We will include as much as possible within reach of the sea and ports of call. That’s likely to include fireworks, live music and various on shore events. It may also include watching the aircraft participating in the English Riviera Air Show. We’ll also have a 1950’s celebration dinner on board, so maybe Spam will feature somewhere after all!
Pilgrim’s Royal links are impressive; King George V, the Queen’s grandfather, visited Brixham in 1914 and saw the sailing trawlers racing in the bay. He presented the King George V Perpetual Cup to the town and Pilgrim is the current holder of the trophy. Our royal connections are further bonded by a visit onboard from Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2014 to present the trophy that year. Pilgrim is also a proud member of the UK National Historic Fleet and we will have a double celebration on 4th June, during this cruise, as it will be 127 years since Pilgrim slid down the launch slipway at Upham’s Yard in Brixham! Another reason to fill a glass or three!
Sailing on Pilgrim is a unique experience
Not only will you have a superb five days sailing, but we will also have four nights to visit port celebrations along the coast. You will see how Victorian fishermen handled these heavy and powerful vessels. You will be able to assist the crew to sail Pilgrim in the traditional manner yet benefit from the modern guest facilities we have on board. Ensuite facilities may be available if booked early.
Your Coronation Jubilee Sailing Celebration will start and end in Brixham, but over 5 days and 4 nights there is plenty of time to explore along the coast. Our cruise will be determined by weather and tides as ever. We’ll set off from Torbay, sail round Berry Head into Start Bay and continue westward. Destinations may include Dartmouth, Salcombe and Plymouth The trip will be characterised by the rolling hills, pretty harbours and secluded beaches of South Devon. It will also likely feature a picnic or a barbeque somewhere special along the way. No doubt they’ll be a party or two onboard. Whatever we do it’ll be fun and something to remember!
Wherever we go, you will be able to appreciate the scenery, the wonderful wildlife and the amazing feeling of just being propelled by the wind in the sails. That’s really special! Take a look at Pilgrim in full sail leaving Dartmouth here. You can find out more about life on board Pilgrim by reading our SAILING GUIDE. This tells you all the things you’ll need to know to make the best of your time onboard. If you would like to read reviews of guest experiences on Pilgrim check them out here.
